Each year around 22nd September, Bulgaria’s Independence Day National Holiday, we experience art, music and cultural entertainment at night on Veliko Tarnovo’s Craft Street. This year it runs from 20th to 24th September.

What’s on?

The programme is as rich and varied as always. Beautiful ribbons decorate the street. The festival offers many opportunities for fun experiences. During the festival, you will be able to meet exhibitors presenting Bulgarian traditional crafts, organic products, jewellery and more. They will be located around “Samovodska charshiya” – on “Georgi Sava Rakovski” and “Georgi Mamarchev” streets. Some of the exhibitors will also offer workshops for children and adults, such as making soaps, candles, jewellery and painting with different materials, making mosaics, and anyone who wants can be painted with henna. As always, Han Hadji Nikoli is open for delicious refreshments too.

The wine tasting Centre is open every day from 20.09.2023 until 24.09.2023 between 12:00 and 20:00 the Wine Tasting Center on Samovodska Charshiya, will host free tastings of wines from the region. These tastings will be called “Romance in a glass of wine”. Tastings are from 11:00 – 14:00 and from 16:00 – 19:00.

Also, we invite all enthusiasts to roll up their sleeves, grab the rolling pin and join the culinary workshop “Grandma Kalina’s Noodles”. Of course, we have also thought of our youngest visitors and have prepared many fun surprises for them. On the very first day 20.09.2023 Vesel Theater will present the puppet show “The Fisherman and the Golden Fish”On September 21 and 22, there will be interactive shows with soap bubbles on Samovodski Pazar Square, and on September 22, we have also prepared an interactive performance “Foam Party”. Every day, the visitor’s mood will be lifted by stilt artists and other street performers who will roam around the bazaar.

In the evenings, the street will be lit by fire performers (even some on stilts!) This will be complemented by musical performances in all different styles, so there is something for everyone.
