We wish all the ladies a Happy International Women’s Day.
Today is International Women’s Day — a day that means many things to many people.
In Bulgaria, it’s a day when almost every man walks home with flowers in hand. Mothers, wives, daughters, colleagues — no woman is forgotten. The streets fill with colour, florists sell out before lunch, and homes are brightened with tulips, roses and carnations. It’s a beautiful tradition, and one we love.
But International Women’s Day is more than a bouquet.
It began as a movement for women’s rights, equality and recognition. It’s about celebrating achievements — in business, in families, in communities, and in everyday life. It’s about strength, resilience, courage and contribution. And yes — it’s also about appreciation.
So today, while you’re choosing flowers (or receiving them), take a moment to think about what they represent.
Red for love and respect.
Yellow for friendship and joy.
Pink for admiration and gratitude.
White for sincerity and new beginnings.
Every colour tells a story — just like every woman does.

And while we’re celebrating, Bulgaria is also alive with tradition at this time of year. On Baba Marta (1st March), we welcome spring with red and white martenitsi for health and luck. On Liberation Day of Bulgaria (3rd March), we honour Bulgaria’s freedom and history. And during Trifon Zarezan, vineyards are blessed for a fruitful year ahead.
March in Bulgaria is about renewal, strength, and hope — which feels rather fitting.
So whether you’re gifting flowers, receiving them, or simply raising a glass of Bulgarian wine — here’s to strong women, blooming futures, and a season full of possibility.
