Welcome to our Blog

Veliko Tarnovo is one of the oldest cities in Bulgaria and is nicknamed “The City of the Tsars” for the many Bulgarian tsars who called Veliko Tarnovo home over the centuries. The city is famous for it’s fortress castle, Tsaravets. However there any many more places in the region to discover. We have written these blog posts to help visitors with their own discovery of this unique and enchanting region of Bulgaria. Our aim for our blog is to be both interesting and informative so that you can get the most from your travels in this part of the world.

7 Day Trips around Camping Veliko Tarnovo

Many customers ask us for suggestions of day trips they can make, to combine places to see and things to do in the region. These are the places our groups and independent travellers enjoy visiting….

If you don’t want to pack up your motorhome, why not hire a car? Another option, if you prefer to have a rest from driving, is to book a taxi. We can help you negotiate a rate.

Day Trip 1

Morning: Visit Veliko Tarnovo – 11am Free Walking Tour from Tourist Information Centre. There is a big choice of places to see and things to do in Veliko Tarnovo. If you have children, don’t miss the museum of illusions.

Late Lunch: Go to Arbanasi to dine overlooking Veliko Tarnovo. Sevosekrator Hotel has a spectacular terrace where you can eat whilst looking across Veliko Tarnovo and the Balkan Mountains beyond.

Afternoon: Walk around Arbanasi or book a Jeep Tour with Hillview Veliko Tarnovo. Then Return to Camping Veliko Tarnovo for a swim.

Evening: Relax under the stars with a drink at your camping place.

Day Trip 2

Morning: Buzludzha Communist Monument.

Shipka Monument 

Etar Ehtnographic Complex – Dine at the restaurant here (or bring a picnic and eat it on Shipka Peak)

Evening: Back to Camping Veliko Tarnovo for a swim and a drink in the Coffee Shop

See if the Sound & Light Show is on during your stay and include a taxi ride to Veliko Tarnovo to catch that sight.

Day Trip 3

Morning: Hotnitsa Waterfalls Eco Trail . Take a picnic.

Afternoon Go to Nikololis ad Istrum Roman Ruins

Day Trip 4

Morning: Dryanovo MonastryCave / Ecotrail (Also a great restaurant by the river side)

Afternoon: Tryavna Wood Carving Village  (The best Indian Restaurant in Bulgaria is there!)

Day Trip 5

Morning: Elena Remember to download the walking tour and don’t forget to stock up on Dried Filet Elena and Elena White Cheese & Yoghurt

Eat lunch at Tihia Kut (The Quiet Place) or find a café in the centre of the town.

Afternoon: Hristovski Waterfalls & Yovkovstsi Lake – Gentle walk / relaxing by the lake.

Day Trip 6

Krushuna Waterfalls / Hotalich Fortress  (Or Emen Canyon instead of Krushuna)

Day Trip 7

Whole Day: Ivanovo Rock Churches

This could form part of your journey to Ruse / Romania as it is on the route to the border.
