Fresh Local Food Just Minutes from Camping Veliko Tarnovo
One of the pleasures of camping is enjoying good food outdoors, whether that means a relaxed barbecue at your pitch, a picnic in the countryside, or cooking with fresh local ingredients. If you are staying at Camping Veliko Tarnovo, there is a new local business nearby that we think many of our guests will enjoy discovering.
Zdravelinov Butchers Shop has recently opened in the village of Dragizhevo, less than five minutes by car from the campsite. Located at the far end of the village as you leave towards Veliko Tarnovo, this family-run shop combines the feel of a traditional butcher and delicatessen, offering a wide range of carefully selected Bulgarian products.
The owners spent months searching for suppliers and products that meet their standards for quality, freshness and taste. Their philosophy is simple: They offer food made with natural ingredients and avoid many of the preservatives, colourings, flavour enhancers and additives that producers add to mass-produced products. For visitors looking for authentic local food, it is a refreshing approach and they are very nice people too!

The shop’s fresh meat selection includes Bulgarian pork, minced meat prepared to order, traditional meatballs, sausages, kebabche, and other barbecue favourites. If you enjoy cooking on the campsite barbecue, this is an excellent place to pick up quality ingredients for an evening meal.
Alongside the fresh meat counter, visitors will find a tempting selection of traditional Bulgarian cured meats and delicacies made using carefully developed recipes and local ingredients. Products include lukanka, sujuk, cured pork specialities, pastrami-style meats and a variety of traditional delicatessen items that showcase the rich flavours of Bulgarian cuisine.
There is also an impressive range of dairy products. Cheese lovers can choose from speciality kashkaval flavoured with truffle, herbs, chilli, figs or blueberries, as well as traditional Bulgarian cheeses, cream cheeses and marinated varieties. Whether you are putting together a picnic, a simple lunch or a platter to enjoy with a glass of wine, there is plenty to tempt you.
They stock the shelves with many other surprises too. These include traditional meat preserves, local products and a selection of imported Italian specialities. The result is a shop that offers something a little different from a typical supermarket and rewards those who enjoy exploring local food.
For international visitors, shopping is straightforward. The staff speak a little English, and you can pay by card or Euro cash.
Opening hours are Monday to Friday from 08:00–13:00 and 15:00–20:00, and Saturday from 08:00–13:00. The shop is closed on Saturday afternoons and Sundays. So, if you are planning a weekend barbecue or picnic, stock up in advance. Ask us at Reception if you need some recommendations. We have tried a lot of the delicious delights on offer.
We are always pleased to support local businesses that share our appreciation for quality and authenticity. If you enjoy discovering local food during your travels, Zdravelinov Butchers Shop is a welcome new addition to the area and well worth a visit during your stay at Camping Veliko Tarnovo.
